Dunbar’s 18th Century battery fort comes to life as the military moves back in for a day of living history displays.

It is 1745 and the Jacobite threat looms large. Dunbar harbour bustles with activity as the British army of Sir John Cope disembarks, anxious to meet with the enemy in the coming days.

– Visit the soldiers to discover how they were dressed and equipped, and what life was like for an 18th century soldier.
– Meet the sailors of HMS Fox, who have come ashore to support the army’s artillery train. Discover how the Royal Navy fought at sea, and what happened to those who joined the land campaign at Dunbar in 1745.
– Examine a replica cannon on one of the battery’s gun platforms and learn how they worked.
– Meet some of the townsfolk too, and hear their views on this unexpected conflict.
